    TWELVE YEARS OF SUCCESS

I have now been syndicating thoroughbreds under the Prime Thoroughbreds banner since late 1997. In that time we have had great success and we have syndicated Group, Listed or Metropolitan winners in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania.

The Prime Thoroughbreds horses are trained by top class horsemen. The Prime Thoroughbreds trainers are David Hayes and Mark Kavanagh in Victoria and South Australia, Kris Lees and Anthony Cummings in NSW, Mel Eggleston in Queensland and Charlie Goggin in Tasmania. Each of these trainers have established themselves at the top of their profession in their particular state or states. Our horses couldn't be in better hands.

Throughout 2007, 2008 and into 2009 we have continued to get winners. In fact we had metropolitan winners at Flemington, Caulfield, Sandown, Moonee Valley, Morphettville, Victoria Park, Cheltenham, Randwick, Warwick Farm, Canterbury, Hobart, Launceston, Doomben and Eagle Farm since the start of 2006.

    2007 AND 2008

Due to the outbreak of Equine Influenza 2007 and 2008 were difficult years for many people associated with the thoroughbred and harness industries. If one good thing has come out of all the pain that has been inflicted on the industry it is that Governments at all levels now have a greater understanding of the importance to the economy of the racing industry.

From our perspective it was disappointing not to have horses racing in Queensland and NSW. In fact 60% of our racehorses were stranded in NSW or Queensland when the Equine Influenza outbreak hit. While only a small number of our horses contracted the virus the shutdown to racing caused considerable disruption to many of our horses programs and robbed many of our horses of an important part of their career.

The full cost of the outbreak will never be fully known. From our perspective it has been very disappointing to see a number of horses not reach their potential due to complications associated with Equine Influenza.

There were many highlights throughout these two years. For me the outstanding job our trainers have done for us has been a major plus. In David Hayes, Kris Lees, Charlie Goggin, Anthony Cummings, Mark Kavanagh and Mel Eggleston we have a very good group of people looking after our interests.

On the racetrack we had plenty to cheer about including Maha Chakri winning the Tasmanian Oaks, Under Commands two wins in Sydney, Shine On Anna's two wins in Melbourne, Greenmount Belle’s six wins in Hobart and two stakes placings, Huiskes stakes win, Sun Glazed two wins in Melbourne and win in Adelaide, Hidden Wonders metropolitan wins in Melbourne and Adelaide, Lord Monty's arrival as a listed class sprinter, Captain Chaos's wins in Sydney, Brisbane and Hobart, Commands Gold's return to the winners list winning four straight. On top of these great performances we won a host of other races.

Over the years I have been very proud of the fact that we have consistently managed to get 90 to 95% of our purchases to the races. This is well above the industry average. Even taking into account of the problems of 2007 we have saw all of the three year olds we had on the books that year get to the races.

Thirteen of these horses were winners including the very promising sprinter Lord Monty, stakes placed Hidden Wonder, city winners Brunei Tale, Expressmoss, Greenmount Belle, Surefire Lad, Looking For Action as well Let There Be Rock, Izacat, Miss Bulawayo and Magnifique Lass.

Our three year olds did a great job considering this was the crop of horses that were most affected by Equine Influenza. Already we have a stakes winner in Huiskes, Flemington and Caulfield winner Shine On Anna as well as the winners Mr Langer, Flying Topaze, Bavarian Belle, Unser, Valize, Mongkut, Sea Coral and Miss Naiomi.

    2009

I see 2009 as being a very good year for our company. We have seen good steps taken by the racing authorities in South Australia, Tasmania and Queensland that should see positive futures for the industry in these states going forward.

The recent announcement of stakes increases in South Australia of about 30% from February 2010 was terrific news and a great boost for all participants of the industry in that state.

Throughout 2009 our horses have continued to win races with winners in Victoria, NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania.

In 2006 I was concerned that the cost of yearlings was going to force a number of our owners out of the industry. To help overcome this problem I decided to test my hand at buying weanlings and syndicating them. This has been a success with the seven I purchased in 2006 and 2007 getting to the races with six winning and the sixth being placed.

    I intend continuing this strategy.

The 2008 crop (now 3 year olds) are doing a great job with ten winners already coming from this group of horses. The young brigade were ably supported by the older horses with Hidden Wonder, Lord Monty, Flying Topaze, Greenmount Belle, Commands Gold and Captain Chaos saluting the judge.

I was thrilled when Believe 'N Achieve, our first horse with Mark Kavanagh came out and won by six lengths recently. Equally, I was chuffed when Namsarai was placed at his first two starts at Canterbury for Anthony Cummings. these two trainers are sure to figure prominently in our planning in the years ahead.

We have a superb group of two year olds coming through the system and I can't wait for them to get to the races. We have two year olds by Street Cry, Testa Rossa, Flying Spur, Mossman, More Than Ready, Anabaa, Snitzel, Hidden Dragon, Starcraft, Danasinga, Stratum, Foreplay and Magic Albert.

    WINNING IS A HABIT

The very first horse that I syndicated was the Warwick Farm winner Let's Jive. Since then we have rarely been without a good horse. Our best performed horse in each year since we kicked off has been 1998 Let's Jive ($20,000), 1999 Calming ($40,000), 2000 Polish The Silver ($28,000), 2001 Desk Top Lover ($25,000), 2002 Zero Drama ($47,500), 2003 Horrocks ($50,000), 2004 Holding ($10,000), 2005 Unabated ($40,000), 2006 Under Command ($35,000), 2007 Maha Chakri ($40,000) and in 2008 Lord Monty ($30,000), Huiskes ($47,500), Shine On Anna ($75,000), Izacat ($30,000), Bavarian Belle ($20,000) and Magnifique Lass ($60,000). The price in brackets behind each horse is the purchase price for the horse. These figures in themselves tell a story as well. Listed further down the page is a list of our winners.

WHERE DO WE PURCHASE OUR YEARLINGS

In Australia we are very fortunate to have two of the most professional and well respected thoroughbred auction companies in the world in William Inglis and Son and Magic Millions Pty Ltd. These two companies run the major sales throughout Australia. Commercial and part time breeders strive to get their horses into the major sales run by these companies. Only the best are selected. Almost exclusively we purchase our yearlings at sales conducted by these two highly regarded companies.

WHY SELECT A PRIME THOROUGHBREDS HORSE

Firstly, the Prime Thoroughbreds horses have a good chance of getting to the races. This is important. Our selection criteria and the checks and balances we have in place have seen us get a high percentage of the horses we have syndicated to the races and a lot of winners flow from these runners.

Secondly, we have put in place through our trainers a system where you normally only get one account from each trainer each month. This is important. This system allows you to enjoy your racing without having to pay several small accounts per month.

Thirdly, we pride ourselves on our communication with our owners. The clients with horse with David Hayes get regular updates from the stable and also from Prime Thoroughbreds. This system works extremely well. I am in regular contact with all our trainers and forward updates to the owners that have horses with them. As well as that we regularly update this website and send a regular newsletter.

Finally, we are not that big that we don't have time for our clients. I normally only syndicate about 15 horses per year although with our spread of new trainers this may increase in the next couple of years. In any case this allows me to be very choosy about where I buy the horses and I am under no pressure to buy a horse simply because I need one to syndicate. I don't have a big administrative tail that sees me needing to syndicate large numbers of horses to fund the operation.

In essence 'Prime' is about people brought together because of their interest and love of the thoroughbred. It is in our interest to ensure your participation is a worthwhile one. Winning races is our business and while not every horse we buy will be a winner, many will be.
